Normal.dot

O

oe

On my home PC, I have my templates stored as:
c:\Documents and Settings\My Documents\My Templates\<normal.dot> etc. I also
have a Macro.dot which loads all my toolbar settings.

I am not sure where to keep these on my office PC as everything is kept on
the server so that we can all access all office files. When I start Word
2003, I get the message "Global template normal.dot already loaded" (or
something similar).

Can you help, please?

TIA

I sincerely hope that you are not trying to share normal.dot? That file
should be a personal file for each user. It is not designed to be shared!
Add-ins such as your macro.dot should be in the folder defined at tools >
options > file locations > startup, which can be a common folder.

1) You should _not_ be trying to share normal.dot. It may be that you have
set a second normal.dot file as a separate global template. If so try
renaming it.

2) You should not be creating / loading toolbar changes using vba unless you
want the toolbar to be different every time you are starting Word. Instead,
make the changes once in a global template and then simply load that
template. It may be that this is what you are attempting; I just can't tell
from your post.

3) See http://addbalance.com/word/movetotemplate.htm for step-by-step
instructions on moving / sharing / copying / backing-up customizations
including AutoText, AutoCorrect, keyboard assignments, toolbars, macros,
etc.
