non-existent computer still shows up in network

here at the office we have several computers, all running xp that were
all named oddly - in an attempt to standardize the network, i've gone
and renamed them all to a standard format we came up with here. they
all have worked except for one - it shows the computer on the network
as the new name, but for some reason it still shows up as the old name
as well...

i went through and deleted all references to the old name in the
registry of the computer that's causing issues, and it is still for
some reason showing up on the network as both the old and new name -
what makes things more odd is that if you try to access it via the old
name on the network, it tells you the computer doesn't exist (duh, i
already knew that)...

how can i fix this?

I would try restarting the router.
