Non-destructive reinstall appears to be hanging

Earlier today, my win xp pro system crashed with the black screen warning
about memory dump etc. I don't have the exact text. When I tried to
restart, I got an error message that one of the system files was corrupt.
So I decided the best thing to do would be an o/s repair. The xp pro CD
only had an option for a non-destructive reinstall of the o/s so I decided
to do that. (Big Mistake?)

At this point the install process seems to be hung at "installing windows"
and 12 minutes remaining. It's been at this point for about 2 hours
although the markers in the lower right of the screen are still moving and
the advertising blurbs are regularly changing.

Should I abort the installation and start over? If so, what other problems
am I facing?

TIA

Tom

Good tip! It finally completed although I still don't know if my problems
are over <sigh>
