Hello Dave,
Thank you very much, the steps you indicated have indeed rectified the
situation, and the version is showing 1592, and the 'beta 2' has now
disappeared.
Perhaps Microsoft might do well to put this information on the download
page, or is that too much trouble for them!?

Good to hear you got there, Geo. I took you through the steps we've
determined avoid the more common problems... disable security and download
to harddisk first. More often than not, those steps aren't necessary, and
I think Ms relies (perhaps too much) on this newsgroup to work their
customers through the bumps. I'm guessing they don't want to make the
installation task seem too daunting to the average user so as not to
discourage them from installing a worthwhile product... I spent many years
being very careful on corporate computers, perhaps to the point of
paranoia, although I wouldn't want to spread my affliction too widely...
;-)
