NOD32 Never find a virus/worm/trojam/spyware, nothing

NOD32, retail with all updates daily, never finds anything.
Since buying it 1.5 years ago, it's never alerted me to anything,
nothing!

I download from reputable sites but something get files from the
third-tier sites and 25% are just plain PORN, WMV files, images etc.
Some of the PORN videos are in the 50-100 MB range too.

What's the deal?
How do I even know NOD32 works if it never does anything?

Well, a video isn't a virus/trojan/exploit.
It's just a video, eh? Porn or otherwise.
You think an AV should know the CONTENT of a video or graphic file?

That's a new idea, the porn scanner.

"ALERT!!! A kinky video has been detected on your system.

The deal is that when you download media files,it is like a box of
chocolates.You never know what you'll get. BTW,are you using a P2P
program for downloading? Have you checked NOD's security settings? Do
you use other scanners just to make sure your system is clean?

No but is WMV dangerous sometimes?

NOD32's settings are about as high as possible, in fact as possible.
I used 2 spyware scanners with it.

I'm asking about the WMV videos, aren't those sometimes dangerous?

Sounds like my experience with AVG Antivirus, which (unlike Avast)
never found a thing even when I *knew* from other scanners my computer
was infected.

Oh, forgot to mention: I'm also reminded of SuperAntiSpyware (which
I bought) which never finds ANYTHING but tracking cookies, yet the
creator's motto is, "Get rid of ALL the spyware, not just the easy
ones!" It's missed several instances of spyware that were caught by
other scanners, such as Avast and A-Squared.

Mr. Arnold

Well, you must be doing something right, by not going to dubious sites or
opening unknown email with attachments, etc, etc that could lead to an
infection.

Well, I suggest you go to some of the dubious PORN sites and watch NOD32
kick in and alert that it is detecting something and you need to terminate
the connection.

I also suggest that you start opening some of those emails that are dubious
in nature and watch NOD32 kick in and protect.

If you're not putting the machine at risk, then why should NOD32 or any AV
solution find anything?

All assume you're running an In-Depth-Analysis with NOD32 from time to time
and let NOD32 do a hard look at all files. Now of course, if you have a PORN
file open and looking at it, NOD32 is going to bypass it.

Ok, I don't want to but if you insist ;-)

I'd say anything saying it get it all is probably a lie.

Like those cleaners advertised on tv, claim they'll clean dried lead
paint stains from wool, etc..

Gotta question. I know what PGP is but what is the need/purpose of a
pgp sig?
Not making fun, just don't know.

I use NOD32 too, and i love it...
Its the best antivirus IMO, because i do browse thru a lot of creepy
sites and NOD32 just cleans them on-the-fly, dunno why, but even that
its setting are set to show up on every virus, sometimes it doesnt and
goes straight to quarantine...
Which is even better cuz i dont have to get all alarmed and nervous
about a virus...
