no UDMA for prim. slave HD?

I can't seem to get my primary slave hard disk to run in UDMA 5 mode.
I have 2 identical hard disks (60GB Maxtor) on the primary IDE as master &
slave.

DVD drive om sec. master IDE (UDMA 2)
DVD+RW on sec. slave.

Intel Application Accelerator says both HD's run in UDMA 5 mode.
Nero Infotool says the prim. slave drive is NOT in DMA mode.

I'm afraid the infotool might be right. Having both drives defragmentised,
and using a benchmark program, I get the following results:

C: 25 MB/sec.
D: 16 MB/sec.

This can't be OK. I need faster D: for video capturing.

Windows2000ProSP4 on C:
Windows swapfile on D:

I had both drives doing 25 MB/sec. This was under Win2kSP3 before
reinstalling Windows 2000...
Any solutions are very welcome!

If your drive is a newish Maxtor drive... I believe they're UDMA 6 now....
but, either way,
your Intel Motherboard may be limiting the access to the lower standard....
my Intel MB does that.
but I use the Maxtor Ultra ATA-133 IDE Controller card to take better
advantage of the drive's capability...

The card is cheap... about $40 and installs very easily.
You can then separated the two drives onto separate channels or add a few
more drives.

No, my (identical) drives are about one year old and are ATA 100. They both
performed the same 25 MB/sec. some time ago under Win2k SP3. Now, after a
reinstall of Windows, only the slave drive lags behind... I know it MUST be
a software/driver problem.
