no tv sound

Hello,

Just updated to cat 4.2 and now I get no sound from the tv input. Video is
ok. Googled the problem but none of the solutions helped me. I've
reinstalled mmc, checked system volume, checked the audio line in, and
getting sound from all other applications. Was working fine till I
installed 4.2

Any suggestions? Thanks.

when you go through the TV setup wizard, what are you choosing as the source? And when you do, do you immediately hear the TV
sound? You should If you choose correctly.

sound. And i'm using cable since i dont have an antenna. TIA.

no not video settings - the audio settings- when you run the wizard (as if you were starting the TV for the first time)

If your choices are as you describe you're in the wrong place. Reinitialize
and set the right sound source, which should be something like "aux" or
"CD" or "line in".

Oops, must have read it wrong. I set it to line in as i'm using the onboard
sound of the mobo. Tv was working fine before the cat 4.2 install.

I'm using line in. Tv was working properly before the cat 4.1 install. I
set it up right before, but now i'm thinking either the cat is messing me up
or mmc.

Did you try the other options?

have you enabled OB sound from the bios?
Well, i'm sure the sound on the mobo is okay and enabled since all my other
applications (games, dvd player, mp3 player, mpeg, avi) are all working
correctly. Seems to be a mmc or cat 4.2 problem. Thought there might be
another patch or procedure to fix my problem. If not, guess i'll have to
roll back my cat and wait for 4.3 or a newer mmc update. Thanks for your
input.

have you already reinstalled the sound drivers....

you have tried 'all' audio source settings from the sound setup
portion of the initialization wizard

you have tried reinstalling the ati drivers(not MMC but the "drivers")

you are sure you have the output and input patch cables correctly
installed

the audio output 3.5mm mini jack is in the 'line in' of the sound card

or you are using the internal cable from the analog out of the ATI
card
to the 'AUX' in of the OB sound chip( which in case you would have to
'turn on' AUX from the playback properties from within windows.

Since you have sounds with other apps, after all things mentioned are
done I have 1 more suggestion. It would have to be driver related.
whether
its a bad install or an incompatibility with your sound driver. I have
not run into one yet myself, but that certainly doesn't rule
incompatibility out. If you going to reinstall. I suggest booting to
safe mode
and goto:
system properties- device manager-

and check all headings for 'ghost' drivers and listings of hardware
no longer on the system along with duplicates
(other that ATI monitor/adapter listings if that applies).
Remove all that don't apply to your current configuration.

I hope you figure it out.
