No startup after install Syjet drive

I tried to install an internal IDE Syquest Syjet 1.5G
removable drive. The Microsoft Cataloge lists it as
compatible with Windows XP. When I connect the drive it
is listed as IDE2 slave in the bios. Windows hangs in the
windows starup flash screen. I have to turn off the
power to restart the computer. I can boot to safe mode
and the drive is listed in device manager and it inicates
it is functioning properly. The driver is from
Microsoft. When I disconnect the drive, windows boots
normally. What to do next?

I have no answer, but have 3 of these drives with a ton of disks that have
been replaced by a cdrw drive then a dvdrw drive. Too many problems!
