No Standby with new MS mouse

I just upgraded to a MS Wireless Laser 6000 mouse. I had been using a
Explorer 2.0 with Intellipoint 6.1. I just reconfigured the software for the
6000 and everything worked fine except my system will not go into standby. I
have the monitor set for 10 minutes and standby for 20 and nothing happens. I
can't even get a screen saver to work. I have uninstalled Intellipoint and
reinstalled so I could choose the 6000 during setup but I still have no
automatic standby. I can force my system into standby with no problems. I
like it going to standby automatically so if I get up and leave it works.

I guess the mouse is communicating with the system all the time causing it
to stay active.

You can disable the mouse being allowed to bring the computer back from
standby (which MIGHT allow it to automatically go into standby) but then you
won't be able to move the mouse to bring the computer back from standby.

I was having a problem with my screensaver after I started using the same
wireless mouse. The screensaver quit working. I was told to go to the
Microsoft download site and download the following.
HID NON-USER INPUT DATA FILTER.
I did that and my screensaver is now working.
Maybe it will help your problem.

I did turn the "allow device to bring computer out of standby" to OFF.
Actually I always leave my system that way so anyone moving around my desk
won't awake my system. I noticed the "Allow power to be turned off"
(something like that) is grayed out on the mouse device mnager page.

Thanks for the input,

YES! It works! It was right there in the MS update. I am set to auto-notify
and after all the restarts I have done trying to get my standby working I
would have thought there would have been a notification. The screen saver
works, my monitor went into standby and I'm sure my system will also. I just
couldn't wait to see because I can finally enjoy my new mouse and learn to
use it.

Thank you!

The other setting (the one not shown in the UI) can be adjusted using the
powercfg command (from an admin command prompt).

powercfg -devicequery wake_armed
