No Sound

My computer was working totally fine last night, comes in 2day switches it on
as normal, it makes all the normal sounds etc. but when i try to play music
no sound, videos appear to be playing but no sound.... iv tried to follow the
troubleshooters etc on my system and nothing appears to be wrong. however,
when i click on the volume tab an error msg says "there are no active mixer
devices available"
