I have a Pent III 500 running Win 2000, 384Mb RAM.

Sound card: Creative 128 PCI

Speakers plug into sound card.

I can play a CD, but any files ripped to the hard drive or Windows system
sounds
willl not play.

Can anyone tell me why?

Many thanks

Hi,

First of all. A CD Drive is directly connected to the Sound Card so it
will play separately from internal sounds.

I wouldn’t go advertising that you "rip sounds to Harddrive".
Doesn’t sound all that legal

Anyway, Go to Control Panel - Sounds and Multimedia. You should be
able to see if your card is installed here, whether the volume is just
muted or turned down etc. I run XP so it is a little different for me.
Under the first tab. Click on the Sounds Tab. If you can play a
sound (whether you hear it or not) then your sound card is installed.
You may just have the volume muted or turned down. Make sure your WAV
sound volume is turned up all the way.

Cheers,

Two posibilities,

1. Soundcard, drivers and application is/was not properly installed.
or
2. Wave sounds have been set to Mute.

Suggest checking #2 first. Also see Start, Help, Sound.
