No Sound (No "Mixer Device") - Win2000

This sounds like the same problem posted by Andrew McQueen
on Mar 31...

I was trying to set up a second sound card and somehow now
Windows does not recognize my sound cards. My primary card
(SB Live Value which came with my PC) is set up properly,
and it has been working fine for almost 2 years now.
Winamp can even find it and play audio, so I know it works.
But I don't get the speaker in the taskbar and no other
programs can find the sound cards.

When I run "C:\WINNT\SYSTEM32\SNDVOL32.EXE" manually, I get
the following message:

"There are no active mixer devices available. You may
install mixer devices from the Add/Remove Hardware Wizard
in the Control Panel.

This application will now exit."

However, the Add/Remove Hardware Wizard does not detect any
new hardware, and I can't find anything on the list that
mentions "Mixer Devices".

I have tried re-installing my SB Live, and I even did a
Windows 2000 repair installation today, and that had no effect.

How do I re-install this important but elusive "mixer
device"?????

Thanks if you can help,
Jeff

Hi Jeff,
Seems like I have the same problem. My sound card seems to
have disappeared completely for no reason. Am getting the
same error messages as you. If you find out what to do
please let me know. Clare.x
