No sound after relinstalling XP

I had a problem requiring I reinstal XP. After that - no sound.
It seems that I didn't reinstall the sound driver...?

In Control Panel --> Soundsand Audio Devices
The Volume Tab is dim and Says "No Audio Device"
The Audio and Voice Tabs are dim
The Hardware has seven etriese (codecs, DVD, Legagy, etc.) entries
that all say the device is working properly.

In Control Panel --> System --> Hardware --> Device Manager
The following all say "Device working properly"
Audio Codecs
Legacy Audio Drivers
Legacy Video Capture Devices
Media Control Devices
Video Codecs

I went to the vendor, eMachines, and they have pages of drivers with no
way I can see to narrow down the choices for me.

What next???

Do you know if you have a PCI Sound Card or integrated sound chip on
Motherboard? If not, try a free System Info
tool such as Belarc or Everest Home Edition. Do a google search for
either one or both. Did you figure out your hard
drive problem?
