No Resizing in "Edit Links" Dialog Box

J

jusgre

Greetings.

My spreadsheet contains 70 links to external spreadsheets. Although the
"Edit Links" dialog box allows me to edit each of these links, the size of
the dialog box is such that the "Close" button is off the screen, even when
set at a maximum screen resolution of 1280 x 1040 for my 19" monitor. There
are no options for resizing the dialog box. I must use the "Esc" key to
close the dialog box when I have finished working with it. I have a clear
screen capture of the issue if there is any way to share it.

This seems like a software bug in Excel, but it looks like I would have to
pay to submit it to Microsoft.

....any thoughts on whether I am doing something silly, and, if not, how to
report this issue to Microsoft? Thanks in advance!

It sounds like the title bar (and the X button) is just off the top of the
screen.

If that's the case, show that dialog
hit alt-spacebar
hit the m key (for Move)
use the arrow keys on your keyboard to move the dialog box to a nicer location
hit enter when you're happy with its position.

I apologize for the lack of clarity in my original post, but that's not quite
what is happening.

The title bar (and the X button) are available at the top of the screen, but
everything below the contents of the list box is cut off at the bottom of the
screen. The user has no idea what buttons are available down there and has
no ability to click them. It just so happens that I only need access to the
button labeled "Close," so hitting the "Esc" key on the keyboard works for me.

....hope you don't mind if I e-mail you a screenshot of the issue real quick...

No thank you for emailing the screen shot.

This certainly looks like an Excel 2007 bug. The Links dialog seems to
expand indefinitely with added links. Use Dave's keyboard shortcut to
maneuver the dialog and see the bottom.

Sub LotsoLinks()
Dim Counter As Integer
Application.ScreenUpdating = False
Application.EnableEvents = False
For Counter = 1 To 100
Workbooks.Add
Sheet1.Range("A1").Offset(Counter - 1).Formula = "=[" &
ActiveWorkbook.Name & "]" & ActiveSheet.Name & "!A1"
Next
Application.EnableEvents = True
End Sub

Thanks for validating me. : )

Is there an effective method for reporting this to Microsoft without having
to pay for a support incident?

Dave Peterson

It's been reported to MS.

This seems like a software bug in Excel, but it looks like I would have to
pay to submit it to Microsoft.

...any thoughts on whether I am doing something silly, and, if not, how to
report this issue to Microsoft? Thanks in advance!
