No printers showing for domain users

Hi,
I have just set up the first XP pro machine to connect to
the Win2000 domain in preparation for a rollout over
Christmas (all clients currently W98). I have logged on
as the machine administrator and set up printers etc. but
when I log on as a domain user, I cannot see the printers
I previously set up. When I install the printer for the
domain user, it asks me if I want to keep the existing
driver, so it knows there is a printer installed. Why
can't I see it?

Thanks.

Hi,
No, not shared but listed in the AD. One printer is
connected to the DCs LPT1 port. Others to standard TCP/IP
ports. I'm in a school so don't want the students to be
able to add (or delete) printers, just use the ones added
by me for the PCs in a specific lab, i.e. lab1 PCs should
only be able to print to lab1 printers. I thought that
once I installed a printer it would be available for all
users.
Thanks, I will continue this in the network-Web group,
but keep an eye on this thread.
Alan.

For a network printer, the connection to the printer is made by each user, not
the machine. If the drivers are already installed, each user does not need to
install them, they just have to install the printer to create the connection.

Are you using an Active Directory domain, or just some Win2000 standalone
servers?

Hi,
Yes using Active Directory. If the students must add printers themselves,
how can I prevent them from adding any printer in the domain as I only want
the students working in lab 1 to use lab 1 printers etc?
Thanks,
Alan.
