Do you have a local printer installed, or is your only printer a network
printer? If you don't have a local printer installed, try adding one. (You
don't really need to have one there, you just have to have it defined in the
Printers list.)

Meaning you can print from Word, then turn right around and print to PPT w/o
changing anything or restarting the computer or the like?
Make sure your printer is set as the default printer.
When you print, do you just click the Printer icon or press Ctrl+P, or do you
choose File, Print and set your print options there? If the former, try the
latter.
If none of that seems to help, try uninstalling then reinstalling the printer
driver.
