Those two things seem to be unconnected as far as I can tell, as no matter what happens you should always still see something on the screen when you first turn on. Have you tried taking the ram/graphics card back out then re-inserting them? You may have knocked something and it's causing a problem.

Also, does the hard drive sound as if it is trying to load windows?

hi admin

I did try reseating both the graphics card and the memory
but i didnt get to post.

the hardrive both sound as if they are on
but i dont think they sound as if they are loading into windows

i always used to get one beep whihc obviously means system post is fine
but im not getting that now
its almost as if they computer is trying to beep but the speaker wont beep
what i mean is that it sounds like a SILENCED beep

when i take out the graphics card i do get beeps
likewise with the memory

I have looked at the cpu, i took off the fan
also i took out the atx power cable and reinserted
still no joy really.

ahh the battery is an idea

as it happens i got a battery its from an old motherboard tho
i know it worked
it was an old pentium 1 133mhz i kept the battery but threw the motherboard away last week!

should i try putting that in?

im thinking it could also be the cpu which is a disaster
because getting a xp old skool series replacement is a bloody nightmare :(

ermm actually i dont think it would be the battery

reason why is because when i take out the graphics card or the memory i do get some beeps...
which also makes me think its more the cpu rather than the mobo................

OK, try a new battery and see what happens.
If it still does not work, then could be the CPU has a problem?

A MB does not need a battery to 'beep' at you ... take out/unplug all non-essential items, even the HD ... you only need MB, Ram, CPU & Vid ... disconnect the rest. ;)

This is the only time I would recommend you re-set the BIOS ... removing the battery, or better still, use the on-board jumper.

No one Beep ... MB/CPU problem, usually MB. :(

when i take out the memory I get beeps
when i take out the gfx i also get beeps

when i took out the cpu
i got nothing

the question is should the pc beep if there is no cpu inserted?

I looked at the cpu closely im
it looks all disfigured with patterns on it
im sure it didnt look like that when i got it
im gona try take a pic and show you all

I have taken all other hardware out i know beleive it is the cpu

when i have all hardware inserted
i can hear a silenced beep
it is almost as if the pc is trying to beep
but i just cant hear it
i hope that makes sense
it is one of those silenced beeps

getting hold of a xp2200 is a bloody nightmare
none seems to sell them anymore

i cant change to a tft untill i get the pc sorted
i only recently got a tv card in that machine to watch digital tv.

If the cpu is dead, you won't get any beeps.

If the MB is dead, you won't get any beeps.

Pick one ... :thumb:

On most Asus MB with no CPU you'll hear a pretty voice tell you you have no CPU. :D

hi
the board is a gigabyte one do you know any more about these?

well the motherboard beeped without no ram or gfx
so in that case i will have to pick the first option out of the two

"If the cpu is dead you won't get no beeps"

Ill try take a pic of the cpu
and see what you think of it :)

I have had a Gigabyte board ... once.

I do not like them, but, there are a whole host of MBs I do not like ... easier to list the three I do like. ;)

Hardware "diagnostics" is all about swapping out the 'suspected' part for a known good alternative. :thumb:

I have had the 'pleasure' of fault finding some really old systems ... easy enough to 'fix' ... if ... you have a "test" component AND you can get a replacement. :D
