No permission to save in directory

Paul Smith

when trying to save a backup copy to cd of my file with
money 2003 like i've always done, it tells me its an
illegal file name or the disk is write protected. when I
browse to the latest backup on the disk it tells me i
don't have permission to save in this directory. see the
administrator. I am the only user on this pc. i get the
same thing if I try to copy any files to any disk on this
drive using the file explorer. but I can write music
files to this drive using other software. this used to
work fine but suddenly now it doesn't.

Anyone please help me...

Have you examined the security settings of the folders?
(assuming this is NTFS filesystem)
You may view the security settings in the properties of
the NTFS object when using a safe mode boot.

No, I haven't tried that. Where would I find these
settings? Not sure if its NTFS.

Thank You,

Sorry. I only just now noticed you mentioned CD.
But you also mention to any disk.
If you are only meaning CD rewriteable disks,
then NTFS is not involved at all.
If you did mean hard disk, then the NTFS permissions
are accessed by r-clicking into the properties of the
folder or file, and slecting the Security tab. In Home
this must be done in a safe mode boot.

I can save to the hard drive ok. It is only with the E:
drive with any disk, new or used. Any other ideas?

Thanks,
