No "New Folder" option?

In places where I would normally right-click, go to New.., and select
New Folder, there is no such option. The list has new text file and
briefcase and various other things but no New Folder. E.g., in
Explorer or wherever look at the files in C:, right click in the empty
space, and go to New... Is this a bug in my system? An "improvement"?
How are you suppose to make a new folder?

Thanks,
Tom

Hi Tom,

Go to this link and try the sfc /SCANNOW option. Maybe this will help
correct the problem for you.

Thanks for the tip, but it didn't find any errors. Are there any
registry checkers for Vista? I wouldn't want one to do a "clean" but
it might point me to some error I can investigate myself. If I go into
an old app like word 2000 and get a "save as" box and browse I get an
icon for a new folder and it works. If I do the same in something new,
like the notepad in Vista, there's a button and I can click it but it
doesn't make a new folder. Something fundamental is broken in my Vista
or registry or something.

Tom,

I always liked Wise Registry cleaner. It's free and pretty good.
Here's the download link:

'WiseCleaner Download' (http://www.wisecleaner.com/download.html)

If you find it, post back and let the rest of us know where to look.
Just in case.

Hope you find it,
Shawn

P.S.
Tom if all else fails, you might try setting up another Administrators
account and see if it'll work in that one. If so, just transfer all of
your personal files into it.

Thanks for the link. It was there and lists itself as good for Vista.
Ran it. Nothing jumps out at me as related. Hesitant to tell it to
"fix" everything it wants to. I tried another Admin account but it has
the same problem. Oh goody, I get to be the one to figure out a new
problem. I'll post if I find a solution (short of the mantra of retry,
reboot, re-install...).

I got an MS tech to Remote Assist and he eventually fixed it though it
had him stumped to start with. INterestingly he went to
http://www.winhelponline.com/articles/105/1/ to find an answer.
There's a registry fix there for New Folder and that worked. In my
search for such links WinHelpOnline never came up. How my system got
the problem in the first place I don't know. Thanks for all responses.
