No more Microsoft Mail - WHY!!!

Our former Win98 workgroup alowed intranet mail (microsoft mail service) between users using Outlook 2000 once a workgroup postoffice was setup on one machine. Now what are we supposed to do with XP. This is crazy if we can't communicate with each other anymore unless I buy nore hardware. What's going on here?
