No mic recording

Another try. Can't record with the mic. Have installed
four sound cards so it isn't the card, besides the system
sounds and the CD play ok Mic checkes out ok and I tried
another mic just to be sure so it isn't the mic. I have
checked the volume controls and the mic is not muted and
the volumes for both player and recorder are high. The
only anomaly I find is that when I click on the main volume
control options menu the advanced option is greyed out so I
can'r adjust the gain on the mic. Anyone have some advice
for me?

Try this. In control panel, click on Sounds and Audio
Devices, select the Audio tab. In Sound Recording, make
sure that mic is the default device and adjust the volume.
