No Mention Of Linux In Dell Sept Catalog

What ignorance? He said it sounds like something. There is no ignorance
there!

No, just guilt by association. The Mattel recall of
Chinese toys for, among other things, lead paint,
has been much in the news lately.

However, I doubt anything from the LEGO Group was
among them (especially since they're based in Denmark).
One would be surprised how much work goes into fabricating
LEGO bricks, and the subsequent work of getting them into
the right boxes; the process is highly automated.

Stop trying to squirm out of your mistake.
He clearly says:

"Here is the online version of the September Dell Catalog that was
mailed out last week."

Yes, but later in the post he says the following:

"All kinds of back to school, business, college, student stuff and Dell
Reccomends MICOROSFT VISTA logos EVERYWHERE.

So where is this great push of Linux Dell is supposedly doing?
Where the hell are they hiding it?
And why?

Maybe Dell knows full well that Linux as a desktop system is about as
in demand as Bubonic Plague.

Expect Dell to quietly dump Linux, if they haven't already because
it's difficult to tell."

That's more than implication, that's a conclusion. Alias' remarks were
over the top and he admitted that and apologized. Nonetheless, a search
of Dell's site confirms Linux is available for those who want it:
http://search.dell.com/results.aspx?s=gen&c=us&l=en&cs=&k=Linux&cat=prod

Dell is in the business of selling computers and the information at
their website, their U.S. website, seems to indicate, they will continue
to sell Linux systems to those who want them but, based on the lack of
mention in their catalog, either mailed or online, it also appears they
realize most of those who want it will either request it or search for
it at their site. If I was in the same "half a penny" business as the
PC business in general, I wouldn't want to turn away Linux users
either. That's not an endorsement, it means, in the interest of good
business, if the demand is there, they will offer it and they still seem
to be doing so.
You have said it as it needs to be said: "it means, in the interest of
good business, if the demand is there, they will offer it and they still
seem to be doing so."
This whole dell open source issue seems to boil down to purely a
business decision by dell, as you have pointed out. Those who are
critical or disparaging of dell and the decision to sell systems with
ubuntu most likely have not read the following from the dell open source
site:
Welcome to Dell Open Source
You asked, we listened. For advanced users and tech enthusiasts, we’re
happy to offer a new open-source operating system, so you can dive in
and truly enjoy a PC experience just the way you want it. In addition to
the FreeDOS systems we already offer, we are proud to announce PCs with
Ubuntu.
Not sure Open Source is for You?
The main thing to note is that when you choose open source you don’t get
a Windows® operating system. If you’re here by mistake and you are
looking for a Dell PC with Windows, please use the following link.
Shop Dell PCs with Windows
Already an Open Source fan?
Choose from the following two options to get started, or keep reading to
learn more about our open source offerings.

They are merely offering choice, hopefully making some bucks by doing
so, and not trying to change the world.

What's an unbuntu? I thought Dell was shipping some computers with linux.
An Ubuntu is like when you need to go to the bathroom, you push and push,
but nothing comes out! Just FYI.

He implied that Dell no longer sells computers and they will dump it and
other sordid lies.

Dell no longer sells computers? Wow, that -is- news.

Yeah, we know that Micro$oft "incentives", combined with fees paid to
OEM's to pre-load a bunch of unwanted crapware, can negate Linux' cost
advantage.

If you're a loser.

To anyone with a brain, Visduh is about the worst OS ever foisted upon
the market. If it weren't for Micro$oft's monopoly power, which
allows them to force it upon the OEM's, only a small number of the
curious and the foolish would be using it.

Too stupid to do a delimiter correctly, eh top-poster?

Just the opposite, IMHO! Vista has improved on many things I used to find
completely frustrating, such as restarting Explorer automatically instead of
just BSOD until I forced the whole system to reboot, added built-in security
features (customer request?) like firewall, pop-up blocker, Anti-Spyware,
all included, and an added layer of system protection that prevents foolish
newbies from deleting critical system files that they think they don't need.
After the majority of the bugs are patched, more compatible drivers are
written, third party software catches up, etc., I believe _some_ office
net/sys admins will start using Vista to "user-proof" the corporate network.

Imposters are a dime a dozen. If you find yourself being mimicked, then you
might eventually find out the monkeys caused you to be killfiled. I just
kept changing my screenname at first, but I finally gave up. Be anonymous
and try to keep a low profile, limit the number of newsgroups you use with
each "fake id" (I use 5) and move on to bigger and better things. Above all,
remember that imitation is the highest form of flattery! You have a fan
club! <VBG>

Don't be surprised that one day, upon downloading an update from
the Windows Update site, that upon reboot, you cannot access your
XP O/S because it was an unauthorized, pirated version. And
you'll have no legal leg to stand on. This has already happened
with those running a pirated version of Office 2000. Download and
install SP1 for Office 2000 and one can no longer open the
program. And Microsoft has every right to do this.

No, I never made any such statements. I see you have
quoted the statement(s) from untrustworthy, bogus web sites.
Nothing you referenced and posted is factual!
