No local use

HI,

How can disable a user from logging on locally but access only the shared
files from the network? Can I remove the users name from the logon screen?

Thanks
Ramesh

If you're running XP Pro, click Start, Run and enter GPEDIT.MSC Once there, go to:

Computer Configuration, Windows Settings, Security Settings, Local Policies, User Rights Assignments

Look in the right pane for Deny logon locally. Double click this entry and add the specific User to the list.

For XP Home, download and install TweakUI for Windows XP. In the Logon section, you can prevent the User from appearing on the Welcome Screen. However, there are ways around the Welcome Screen. Unfortunately, XP Home is not as robust as Pro when it comes to user rights.
