NO INBOX - Incoming mail goes to Recovered Folder after Inbox repair

W

WD

Hi

My machine hung - after a re-boot I needed to run the Inbox Repair
Toll which I have had to do before.

All repaired fine - got the Lost and Found folder and 'Recovered
Folder ADDA2' the contents of which was my Inbox.

Now incoming mail goes to this folder which I cant move or rename -
and there is no Inbox in the Folder list.

I looked through previous posts but most related to actually running
the Repair Tool.

All help gratefully received

Try starting Outlook with the /resetfoldernames command line switch.

Thanks Brian

That has restored the folder name back to INBOX

It is still in the wrong place, a folder under a folder Recovered
Folder ????' and will not let me move it

I didn't know about the command line startups - so I lloked through to
find one that may help me further but alas nothing obvious

Again - and suggestions to here and all much appreciated, regards

You may need to create a new PST, make it your delivery location, then move
everything from the old to the new.

The /resetfolders switch may work, but were it I with the trouble, I'd just
create a new PST.

Hi - Thanks for the follow-up - the /resetfoldernames certainly
restored the 'name' but not the problem of moving it.

So - could you do me a favour and help me make, and migrate to, a new
..pst file please.

I have *loads* of folders which I'd like to retain/import.

Thanks in advance for your help - some sort of bullet step-bt-step
would be great detailing the export/import/new file stages.

Kind regards

If you re-read my last post you'll see I also mentioned the /resetfolders
switch. Did you also try that one?

To migrate to a new PST, create a new one with FIle>New>Outlook Data File.
After you've created it, make it the delivery location with the drop-down at
the bottom of Tools>E-mail Accounts>Next. Stop and restart Outlook. The
new PST will become your Outlook Today, with the old PST appearing as
"Personal Folders". For each of the non-default folders in the old PST,
right-click it and select Copy, specifying "Outlook Today" (the top level of
your new PST) as the destination. Once all of the non-default folders are
done, open each of the non-Inbox, non-Calendar default folders, click the
first item, then select them all with CTRL-A. Right-click the selection and
choose Copy. Specify the appropriate folder within your new PST. Copy the
Calendar contents of the old PST by changing its View to By Category.
You'll then be able to copy its contents just like the contents of the other
folders. Finally, for the Inbox, open the subfolder that contains your real
Inbox, click the first item, select everything with CTRL-A, right-click and
choose Copy. Specify your new Inbox as the destination.

If there are any other subfolders that didn't get copied this way, you
should know enough from this process to be able to copy them yourself.

Hi - I did see your post, sorry I typoed - I meant resetfolders. It
didn't move the Inbox or allow me to move it.

This worked great - all the steps were there and helped me make a new
..pst - in fact I clicked and dragged most of my non-standard-folders
to the new set of Personal Folders - and the sort by category worked
for Calendar and Contacts.

I'm all sorted - thank very much for your help - I couldn't have done
it without you
