No hibernate tab in power dialog

I am trying to delete the hiberfil.sys file and understand that I should turn
off the allow hibernate check box in the power dialog box, but I do not have
a hibernate tab. I am running WindowsXP pro Ver 5.1 Service pack 2.

The tabs in my power options properties are: "Power Schemes" "Advanced" and
"UPS"

Any ideas?
Thanks,
Mike

Hi Mike,

1. Are you logged on as administrator?
2. Are you sure hibernation is currently enabled?

I am logged in as admin. but I cannot tell if hybernation is set on or not.
I have my hard disks and monitor to turn off "never", but there is no
provision to turn on or off hibernate since there is no tab for it.
Can I reinstall that part of windowsXP?
Thanks for your response Rick

Wesley.... Brilliant simply Brilliant.
I tried verious steps in the thread you posted and got the same responses
such as "file not found" when trying to simply delete hiberfil.sys from the
command prompt.
I also could not change the attribute of the file from the command prompt.
But I took a deep breath and went into the registry editor... backed up the
huristics key to a text file and deleted it.
After re-booting my machine I was able to simply delete the hiberfil.sys
file from Windows user interface.
Bam! I got 1.5 gigs back just like that!
Every so often in the past year I have posted this issue in one techey forum
or another and gotten the usual responses of turning off hibernate in the
power management dialog, or to delete it from the command line. Your link to
the thread has made my evening. For this I thank you and tip my hat (if I
were wearing one) I will take a sip of beer in your honor instead.

Mike,

Glad it worked for you.

You may have noticed that the original thread took about four days. ;-)

A little quicker this time. :-D
