no DX 10 supported driver on first DX10 supported card

I bought a brand new 8800 GTX with a big smile on my face..
Its the first GPU which supports the new DX10 in vista as you know..
opened the box..but no vista driver there!!
no DX support because of the driver..
checked the site on Leadtek..
NO SUPPORT PAGE ABOUT 8800 GTX!!
NO DRIVER PAGE ABOUT 8800 GTX!!
I e-mailed them and they give me
"We cannot give any information about non existing drivers" BS..

I mean..Whatta heck!!

Zax.

There are no FULL non beta Nvidia drivers for ANY cards yet.
Why?
because Vista is not even due out til next year.
Vista has a basic Nvidia driver in RTM and very basic at that.
There is no reason for companies to release drivers for an OS that is not on
sale to the public yet.
That is their choice and that is that.
Did you ever see any card on sale with XP drivers(Nvidia) when Windows XP
was still a year away from being on sale?
Drivers for Nvidia cards are from Nvidia and not whoevers name is on the
card.
Only thing Nvidia on a card is the chipset/GPU.

Z

zaxon

Yes.. but there are beta vista drivers all over..
It would be nice to put even a beta driver since they built the card..
At least on their drivers site..
But no go on leadtek.. and no go on nvidia..
Isn't that weird?
zax.

What was their response when you asked about Vista drivers BEFORE you bought
the card?

Er... It's out now. Actually it's been out for 3 weeks to MSDN and Voume
Licence subscribers like me.

Tell me about it.

Oh, I see... Business customers are expected to write their own?
That is their choice and that is that.

It is, and that is why it sucks. It also the reason I'm sending my 7900GTO
back, and using the X1950Pro that I have just bought.

True. In this case, I wouldnt blame Leadtek.

True. In this case, I wouldn't blame Leadtek. "

Well, infect I do!..
On my cards box there is a logo says "VISTA READY"..
and another logo says "DX10 Compatible"
and another logo says "LEADTEK"

I is not vista ready, there is no DX10 (yet)..
and the manufacturer is REALTEK

So I would blame LEADTEK

ARGH!!...I want my driver...

PS: You guys have a point tho..but..I DON'T want to understand...
PS2: I even had a dream of this card :)

1.Cards are not made by Nvidia, they are Nvidia CHIP based cards to use
with Nvidia drivers for whatever OS.
2.Cards come with a driver/software disk that can either contain branded
drivers that are still based on Nvidia drivers.
3.It is up to whoever makes the cards/brands the cards to include or not
include drivers.
4. Like I said before, the company who's name is on the card and box do not
have to include a "vista"Nvidia driver.
5.Vista ready means just that, it does not mean at this time the card will
work as Vista is NOT on sale til next year.
On sale in the stores that means.
The fact that certain versions of Vista are out now or will be out before
next year does not matter.

M

Mountain Man

HOW do you know that the manufacturer is Leadtek?
Just because it says so?
It could be made by anyone as are hell of a lot of cards.
A brand name means nothing.
Mitsubishi (whatever spelling)used to make tv's and they were sold/put out
under all kinds of names.
I have a 7300GT branded as Inno3D and they are selling/putting out the new
cards without Vista drivers.
I don't care as I use Vista's built in one till Nvidia release one.

Yes but to Nvidia and others it is NOT on general sale.

It's either on sale or it isn't. And as of yesterday Ultimate, Business and
Enterprise are officially on sale.

To anybody.

A home user could buy a copy of Vista Business or Vista Ultimate today. Ok,
realistically, it will only be enthusiasts buying Ultimate and a trickle of
OEM Business sales, but both of these need proper driver support. I have an
Nvidia Quattro at work and a 7900GTO at home so I'm screwed.

It's especially worse since the these two groups are where vista makes good
money. The higher end consumer cards and workstation cards... So these are
two groups Nvidia should be trying not to antagonise.

I've already bought an X1950Pro (the first non-nvidia card I have bought in
5 years) and bearing in mind the performance is not that far short of the
7900GTO and it's £50 cheaper means that potentially Nvidia have lost a
long-standing customer.

As of yesterday Ultimate was OFFICIALLY on general sale?
Uh........where, what countries??
Uk, USA, China,....................???????
Wow......that means I can go buy Ultimate in the shops between now and Jan
next year then????

All that is the penalty for your inability to wait for Vista SP1 (or
SP2) and until the necessary drivers are available.

What do you need Vista for _now_? What can Vista do for you which XP
couln't? Aero??

Vista is indeed available to the public, namely OEMs, group business
licenses, and one chain (Comp USA I think??) obtained permission from
Microsoft to distribute the OS in their stores already.

The January release is more with regard to buying boxed versions on everyday
Wal-Mart shelves, but the OS is indeed otherwise for sale if you know where
to look.

Perhaps.

What do I need XP for? Why not W2K? Why not Linux?

Perhaps I like Vista?

I am all three.

I'm happy to take the pain of being an early-adopter, but I'm obviously
going to make the best of it. If that means using an ATI card, so be it. My
point is that Nvidia have lost a loyal customer. It's something they can ill
afford to do.

Do you think I'm going to hang on to a £200 nvidia card until appropriate
drivers come out? Of course not - it's getting sold at nearly full price. My
Vista 'experience' has been great so far. A few niggles and a few minor
problems, but plenty to appreciate too.

If the 'nearly' amounts to about 40, you could throw in a GeForce 6200
and save your 8800 GTX until the suitable driver is available... and
then, again, you will be an early-adopter!

Sadly, I have a 7900GTO not an 8800GTX. However, I'm thinking of keeping my
ATI card until next year when more affordable DX10 cards come. Maybe Nvidia
will be able to woo me back with a sub-£200 DX10 card...but all things being
equal, I'll probably give ATI another go.
