No drag and drop

Windows XP Pro Sp2

Maybe this is the wrong group but I don't know where else to ask.

Up until a few days ago I could download mp3 files to the hard drive folder
then drag and drop onto a CD. Now when I try to move files to a CD I get the
message that Windows cannot perform the function. I cannot recall that I have
added or uninstalled anything since when it was working.

I have tried copying to Roxio 6 but when I try to burn the files to the CD
Roxio says it cannot perform the burn because the Roxio Record function is in
use. There is nothing on the monitor to indicate any other function in use.

Have you installed anything that coincides with this behavior? Have you
rebooted at all since the problem started? You should also verify that
the IMAPI CD-Burning COM Service is running. You can do this by right
clicking on My Computer and choosing manage then choosing Services
under Services and Applications. The service should show up in the
list as running if you wish to drag and drop to CD's from within
windows. You can right click on the service and choose start if it is
not running. If it is marked as disabled you may need to set it to
automatic or manual before it will start. If that has no affect you may
need to go to add/remove programs and uninstall DLA and Record Now,
then reinstall them from the Roxio disc. Hope that helps.

I do not recall installing anything other than some demos which were
uninstalled after accessing them.
I have rebooted several times since the problem started.

The dialog that comes up when I try to drag and drop says that Windows does
not support CD-R format. Try another disc.
I tried other discs with the same result.

I checked the IMAPI which was set to Manual. Changed it from Manual to
Automatic. No change in drag and drop.

I do not find DLA or Record Now in Add/Remove.

Thanks any way.

Well now, that error message sounds like maybe you should drop it into
a search at microsoft.com and see what comes up. Alternately, you
could try your burner in another system to see if it's a hardware
problem.
