No Devices

Hi,
I posted last night, but only got two brainless responses, so I will try
again.

I reinstalled my CDRW and DVD RW which were apparently working fine (I
wanted to change primary/secondary allocations). Now Windows cannot find
drivers for these devices. Furthmore, Windows cannot find drivers for
anything listed under "System Devices", nor for any devices listed under"IDE
ATA/ATAPI controllers" in Device Manager.

Anyone have a clue about what happened? Appreciate any sincere responses.
Thanks in advance,
Terry

You haven't stated what you did to re-install your drives, without this info
we couldn't begin to say what happened.

I pulled them out of the case, changed the jumpers, reconnected the ribbon
and restarted the pc. Windows found the devices, but could not install - got
"Cannot find software" or similar message.

Devices are listed in Device Manager correctly and BIOS identifies the
devices correctly as well.

Terry, your speaking in general terms, please give details.
ie I took the cd drive as Master on the secondary ide channel, and changed
the jumper to slave and plugged it back in,,, that's what we need, we are not
mind readers here..
and what exactly were you aiming to do and be more specific than changing my
primary/secondary allocations, that means nothing to me, give details...

also how your system was set up to start, ie primary HD on Primary IDE
Secondary HD on Primary IDE and cd on seperate cdplug or primary on
secondary IDE etc....Why did you want to reallocate allocations?

This may or may not help but I had a similar problem when I disconnected my
CD drives to change a component. The CD drive, CD burner and my external DVD
burner had disappeared from My Computer even though I could see them in
Device Manager. I also could not update or even find the drivers. This
worked for me, method one, I didn't try method to for obvious reasons,
