I was cleaning up some viruses and accidently deleted a
registry item that runs the desktop. When I boot, the
machine goes to the screen saver and nothing else. Any
suggestions on where I need to edit the registry and what
the values would be?? Thanks much

Restore your computer (using System Restore) to the most recent point in
time before you started cleaning up. And be extremely cautious if you are
going to edit the registry.

Thanks Rocky...
How do I get to system restore without use of the start
button. I can access files through task manager, but
haven't been able to locate the system restore program.

Start button? Ha! Who needs a Start button? A frill. A toy.

Open Task Manager. Under the File menu select New Task (Run...). Type this
command and then click OK:

%systemroot%\system32\restore\rstrui.exe

Seriously, the Start menu is important, of course, but it's part of the
graphical user interface. You can do just about anything from the command
line, as long as the guts of Windows - Windows Explorer - is still running.
