No defrag tool or checkdisk tool

Updated to SP2 on 28 Sep 04. System now does not have a defrag or checkdisk
tool. When I try to use defrag, a command prompt screen flashes on my
monitor and then it's gone. I tried using the checkdisk tool on reboot, but
it didn't load. System has been slow loading, taking 15 minutes once. Once
loaded, the OS works choppy at times and fine at other times. All drivers
are up to date, changed RAM with no difference. I ran Ad-Aware, Spyblaster,
Sypbot, AVG antivirus, and Trend Micro on line virus check with negative
results and no change in the performance.
Advice would be appreciated.

Start/Run/type "cmd" (don't type the quotes). Then try "derag". If you don't
know where the GUI version is by now you haven't learnt much.

That should be 'Defrag' and not 'Derag'

Obviously Ross didn't understand the question. I know where the GUI version
is, it just didn't work. Found the answer at another, more helpful, newgroup.
Start/Run/type: sfc /scannow
This repaired the damaged or corrupt Windows files allowing the GUI to work
properly. Had to have the installation disk for the repair.
Hope this helps someone else who is having the same problem.
