no boot timeout

After installing the Recovery Console, I do not have a bootloader
timeout. The OS boots fine, but only if I hit 'enter'. Here's my
C:\boot.ini :

[boot loader]
timeout=5
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)\WINDOWS
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition" /fastdetect /sos
C:\CMDCONS\BOOTSECT.DAT="Microsoft Windows Recovery Console" /cmdcons

How do I get the timeout to work?

Check options at Control Panel -> System -> Advanced -> Start and Recovery

Check options at Control Panel -> System -> Advanced -> Start and
Recovery

'Time to display list of operating systems' is checked there, and it
shows 5 seconds. I can change it there, and my boot.ini duly gets
changed, but still I get no timer when booting.

I think that your timeout is working but having the /sos option it probably isn't noticeable. I'm not sure why you want to see all the drivers and stuff load but here is what my info look like

timeout=0
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition" /fastdetect

Notice there isn't any /sos. If you want to remove that then click the edit and highlight it and delete it. You will also see that I don't have any time out. You really don't need it. Why wait longer than you have to to get to the desktop. Good luck.

?? The timeout should occur before the OS loads and should not be
affected by whether or not driver loading is displayed afterward.
The timeout always worked for me before, with the /sos switch in
place. Checking now ... removing the /sos doesn't help.

I'm not sure why you'd rather not. ;)
but here is what my info look like

timeout=0
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP
Home Edition" /fastdetect

I also notice that you have only one boot option, which probably
explains why you don't want a timeout.
You really don't need it.

Yeah, I do. Else I wouldn't have asked how to make it work.
Why wait longer than you have to to get to the desktop.

As it is now, I have to hit 'enter'. I would rather not have to do
that.
Good luck.

Thanks.
