No blue screen

Hi

I have XP Pro/SP 2. My system restarts several times before I am in. I
removed the tick mark from "Automatically restart". Still, I don't see the
STOP blue screen error message.

I found this setting in the boot file:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
[boot loader]
timeout=3
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP
Professional" /fastdetect /NoExecute=OptOut

At what exact point does the system restart? Does it get as far as
loading Windows? Saying "before I am in" isn't clear enough.

If the machine does not load the operating system, then you have
hardware problems. We don't have enough information to give you focused
help, though. Post back and include the answer to:

The First Question Of Troubleshooting: what changed between the time
things worked and the time they didn't?

Some information about your computer would be helpful, too.

Hi

My system restarts after reaching the Windows logo. I have been having this
problem only after I recently formatted and reinstalled XP and SP 2 and use
ethernet cable to access broadband.
40gb HD, 256mb SDRAM, no third party firewall, 8ms Flatron screen.

Also, my Device Manager lists yellow question marks adjacent to the
following devices:
- Multimedia Controller
- Multimedia Video Controller

Should I disable them?

No, this means that you didn't install drivers for your hardware. You
need to do that after a clean install. Here is information about where
to get drivers:

Never get drivers from Windows Update. Get them from:

1. The device mftr.'s website; OR
2. The motherboard mftr.'s website if hardware is onboard; OR
3. The OEM's website for your specific machine if you have an OEM
computer (HP, Dell, Sony, etc.).

Read the installation instructions on the website where you get the
drivers.

To find out what hardware is in your computer:

1. Read any documentation you got when you bought the computer.
2. If the computer is OEM, go to the OEM's website for your specific
model machine and look at the specs (you'll be there to get the drivers
anyway)
3. Download, install and run a free system inventory program like Belarc
Advisor. The older Aida32 is good for this, too.

http://www.belarc.com/free_download.html - Belarc Advisor
http://www.aumha.org/free.htm - Aida32 (hosted on Jim Eshelman's site)

So install all your drivers and see if that also solves your
blue-screening problem.
