I have no audio,

Hardware devices list the three following devices wih a yellow circle with
an exclamation point next to them.

1. Microsoft Kernal Acoustic Echo Canceller

2. Microsoft Kernal Audio Splitter

3. Microsoft Kernal Wave Audio Mixer

Does any one know how I can get drivers for these devices?

Thanks,

Craig

No, I didn't. However, recently to try to solve the problem of not having any
audio I did reinstall Windows XP SP2. THe 'reinstall' was an upgrade as I did
not wish to lose all of my programs and data, etc.

Thanks,

Craig

Best I can tell from what I've found using Google is that maybe you
should reinstall the drivers for your sound card.

I know that's not of much help, but it's the best I can come up with.

Have you looked on any CDs that came with your PC /Motherboard. There are
often drivers included on these.

You can also try deleting them and let Windows redetect those items.

Reinstall the drivers for the sound card/device. Get them from the
device manufacturer, the computer tech support site if it's an OEM brand
like Dell or HP or from the motherboard manufacturer's web site if it's
integrated sound on the motherboard.

Thanks for the suggestions. I have reinstalled the drivers several times. I
have even tried doing this with a Soundblaster PCI card installed, so far all
to no avail.

I've cast my eye quickly through this thread several times, I may have
missed it somewhere but, ummmmmm
....you're not making the naughty mistake of having a sound card plugged into
a PCI slot AND having an onboard Audio chip switched on in bios are you ?

Ah, a very good question. I did have a Creative SoundBlaster 512 in the
machine, but I get similar results when I remove it. From the start of this
post, tthe entire message, the PCI audio card has been out of the system.

The board that I have is Intel, because of this there is no manual setting
for onboard sound in the BIOS, unfortunately the onboard sound setting is
'automatic'. Personally, I greatly prefer the manual setting that one finds
on an AMD chipset based board. Good thought though.

Thanks,

Craig

In Sounds and Audio Devices, in the Microsoft Kernel Audio Splitter
Properties, the status is listed as:

Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware because there is a
duplicate device already running in the system. (Code 42)

Anybidy know how to disable this?

Thanks,

Craig

You may have a jumper on the mother board to enable/disable the mobo sound
chip, if there is no setting for it in bios.
....IF you have all necessary drivers ready to hand ...go Control Panel |
System | Device Manager | Hardware
and remove everything in "Sound, Video and game controllers," and reboot and
see what happens.

....if you haven't ogt them ready to hand, ...GET them ready to hand, i.e.
pin down the motherboard make and exact model, sound chip exact make and
model, and search the web to find and collect up, and burn to cd-r,
everything you need before tweaking your platform !!
http://www.driverguide.com is a good source for lots of outdated or hard to
find drivers.
