No Active Mixer Devices.. yes.. again

Ok, so, I've seen that this topic has been posted several times on here, but
noone seems to have any good responses, so here is my situation.

As of yesterday, everything was working great. Before I went to sleep, I
put my computer to sleep.. Woke up in the mornin.. woke up my computer, and
BAM.. no sound.

So yes.. i double click the volume panel icon, i get the good ol' 'no active
mixer available'.. ya di ya di ya.. I Also cannot open my creative volume
control panel as it says there are no supported audio devices available.

I am currently running a machine with windows xp mce 2005, pentium d 2.8GHZ,
2GB ram, ati x800xl video, and a creative soundblaster x-fi extreme music
edition.

I've done all the obvious things I can think of..
several restarts..
using repair utility on the creative disc to reinstall everything..
completely uninstalling everything on my own, and then installing from the
disc again..
downloading and installing latest updates directly from creative.
i've also used troubleshooting from both windows and creative
creative also has a diagnostic tool, which basically proves that its not
working right.

but the strange thing is.. i do have sound.. i can hear windows sounds.. but
i get no music.. or sound from games or anything like that. the only other
sound i get is from creative's software for testing my sound.

if i go to my device manager, i have no warnings or errors or anything, all
devices are working properly, with latest drivers

so, i'm completely stumped, awaiting an email from creative.. hopefully can
get a quicker answer on here, so please,.. help?

Isn't the Windoze eXPerience something else! Maybe you should pour a cup of
coffee into your CD drive to help wake up this toy operating system.

NoStop: And how did your little rant help this poor fellow solve
his problem? I thought that this NG was a peer group for helping
users with their WinXP system problems. Guess I was mistaken.

Well.. amazingly, the problem is solved.. What did I do that I can explain to
other people to help them? Honestly? I didn't do a thing. This morning,
before I went to work, I was still having the exact same problem. Got home
tonight at around 8pm.. magically I have sound working again. WHAT THE HELL?
hehe
Oh well, i'm happy for now, until it happens again...

And Doub W., how did your post help the OP? Let's face it, Windoze XP is
beyond help. It's a toy operating system that should be used for nothing
more serious than playing games. Then again, a play console would still do
a better job with that.
