No 3D Games with XP and Crucial radeon 9700 Pro

Hi

I am running XP Home with a Abit AT7-Max2 motherboard a
Pinnacle capture board and a Crucial(ATI) Radeon 9700 Pro
Video Card. My HDDs are assigned as Drive F and G.
Whenever I boot up I get a message to say that the ATI
drivers are not installed and the ATI control panel will
not start. Also anything that needs 3D drivers such as
the Aquarium screensaver or any 3D games will not work.

Under Hardware Devices there are 2 entries under video
devices. 1. Radeon 9700 Pro (this is disabled) and 2.
Radeon 9700 Pro (enabled). I have tried to delete the
secondary/enable the primary and disable the secondary and
every other combination that I can think of. Unfortunatly
whenever I try this the machine locks into an eternal
cycle of reboots just before you would normally see the
Windows welcome screen.

The drivers are the same for both devices: ATI 12/08/03
Ver 6.14.10.6378.

No 1 is allocated PCI Bus 1, device 0, Function 0 and no 2
is PCI Bus 1, Device 0, Function 1.

If anyone could help I woyuld appreciate it as this is
driving me crazy.

Many Thanks

Try removing the Pinnacle Capture Board. Remove all the old ATI drivers.
Go to www.rage3d.com try a few different
ones. Remove the Video Adaptor entry in Device Manager. Let WinXP
reinstall it.

Do Not disable either of the entries for the 9700. It is supposed to
have the two entries as it can drive two monitors. I have been using
the ATI version of this card since they came out and have never had to
do anything to get it to work correctly other than putting in a slot fan
to help cool it.

Thanks for the tip. However, re-enabling the first Radeon
is fine until I re-boot. Then I get a STOP hardware error
message which is only resolved by "start up using last
good configuration" Will try Tip 2 next.
