NLB problems.

Gareth

I have setup two W2K advanced servers in our DMZ. I have
enabled NLB on the two servers, in multicast mode sharing
a single virtual IP. They also have a management NIC
pointing internally with a different IP and on a different
subnet. I have read the documentation and only
the 'outside' facing NICs have default gateways.

The problem I have is that when I connect to the IP
address the second person trying to connect cannot
connect. after about 5 minutes the second person can
connect and then a third person is unable to connect. This
happens from the 'outside' as well as from internally. We
connect to the webservers via the external address and not
the 'internal' address.

I have searched the MS site for any help but as yet have
had no success.

Thanks,

Gareth

Hi Gareth,
The first suggestion I would make is that you change from multicast to
unicast. The only reasons to use multicast are if you have a single NIC
configuration (which you do not) or if you have an application that
requires that multicast be set (which you could possibly have).

The second thing you will want to check is that the network cards are in
different subnets:

The only question I have is what application are you load balacing? This
could help narrow down what is going on.
