NIC numbers

On a W2K Pro SP4 laptop system, in the Computer Management
applet I have two network cards listed with #3 and #4
after their descriptions. I know for a fact the laptop
only has one integrated NIC, so I was wondering if there
was a way to clean out these entries from the registry?

Thanks for the help.

Usually to remove devices you'll want to first uninstall the device from
Device Manger then power down and physically remove it. This may work for
you.

To display hidden devices, non-Plug and Play devices, and devices not
attached to the computer (commonly known as "ghosted" or "phantom" devices)
From a command prompt;

set DEVMGR_SHOW_NONPRESENT_DEVICES=1

then also from the command prompt;
start devmgmt.msc

Then, use Device Manager to remove or reconfigure these devices. Do not edit
the registry.
