I am a Newuser and I would like to get a good, free, Newsreader for my
system. I am currently using a web interface and from reading posts here its
a good idea to get a Newsreader. I went on Google and was delulged by 100's
of sites and got very confused by all the requirements, etc. Soooo.... I
thought I would ask the experts here for any advice, if you don't mind.

Here are links to different newsreaders and links to setting things up and
posting:

There are many good newsreaders for Windows, but you can use Outlook Express
(XP) or Windows Mail (Vista) since you already have it. Here are some links

Got a problem; when I open Outlook Express, a dialog box appears and states:
"Hotmail no longer allows email access via Outlook Express for free
email accounts. Access to Hotmail via Outlook and Outlook Express now
requires a subscription"

There's nothing wrong with Outlook Express, it's free with Internet
Explorer.

I recommend getting started using Outlook Express, which you already
have (it comes with Windows). You undoubtedly will get recommendations
of other newsreaders from others, but each newsreader has a different
set of features, and has its own strengths and weaknesses. Which is
best for *you* depends on how you work, and what features are
therefore important to *you*. As a single example of that, Outlook
Express is undoubtedly a very poor choice if you frequent binary
newsgroups. But its weaknesses in that regard don't matter at all if
you don't use binary newsgroups.

If you start with Outlook Express and use it for a while, you will get
to know *its* strengths and weaknesses and have a baseline to compare
others against.

For info on setting up Outlook Express as your newsreader, see

Are you under the impression that you need to subscribe to a particular
e-mail service in order to use OE as a news reader? If so, you may
disabuse yourself of that notion! You can continue with your free
Web-based e-mail account *and* use OE for both other e-mail accounts and
Usenet newsgroups.

"%ProgramFiles%\Outlook Express\msimn.exe" /outnews
Is a shortcut which opens OE newsreader interface directly
