We are trying to create a program in booklet format for high school graduation listing the students names in alpha order. We are using word xp and want two columns per page in landscape view and dividing the page in half so we can fold the booklet so acutally a total of four columns on one page in landscape. Is there a way to have what wordperfect called newspaper columns? Also a way to divided the landscaped page into two pages and have a footer centered at the bottom of each page? and then do what wordperfect called booklet printing? THANKS!!! and our Records Clerk thanks you also! Is there a template created somewhere that does all this?

Check the MS Office support site. There are many types of templates and
other interesting stuff. Google "booklet format word", etc., and see
what if anything pops up.

Format | Columns will give you newspaper-style columns, which will go part
of the way toward what you want. For booklets, though, especially if you
want headers and footers, you need to use the "Book fold" feature in Word
2002 and above (this can be selected on the Margins tab of Page Setup). If
you find that this doesn't give the results you expect, you can still create
booklets manually using the techniques described at

All versions of Word have the option to print odd and even pages. In the
lower left corner of the Print dialog, there is a dropdown box labeled
"Print:" that offers "All pages in document," "Odd pages," and "Even pages."

Suzanne Thank you
I went to your column at
word.mvps.org/faqs/formatiing/bookletprinting.htm. I followed all the
steps. However, when I went to print in Word XP, the option for odd or even
pages did not exist. I tried just typing in the odd pages (1,3,5,7). They
all printed anyway. Page 1 and 8 printed, page 2 and 7 printed, a blank and
page 7 printed, pag3 6 and a blank printed, a blank and page 5 printed, and
2 blanks printed. Any ideas? Oh for WordPerfect again! Thanks in advance.

Thank you again for your help. I am not sure why I am having so much trouble with this. HOWEVER, when I go to print on the screen with my booklet, the print: area is greayed out so that option for odd or even pages is unavailable on this document. What have I done wrong?

After reading your reply and finding the print odd or even pages, I replied that on my file that option was greyed out.

So I created a new file and tried again. The option was available until I selected book fold from the page setup menu. After changing to bookfold, the print option greys out. If I change back to normal in page setup the option is again available. Soooo, to sum up I cannot choose bookfold AND print odd or even pages. Any thoughts? We are getting close to graduation and I would love to be able to do this on the computer and not by hand

When you print a book fold document, you're printing odd and even pages on
the same page, so of course the options would be grayed out. You did not say
that you were using "Book fold." You said that you had followed the
instructions in my article, so I assumed that you were using the manual
method. There is no need to do any of that if you're using "Book fold";
pagination is handled automatically. If you've used the margins and other
instructions for the manual method with book fold, then you've basically
made a big mess, I'm afraid.

Using book fold, you should be getting 8 and 1, 2 and 7, 6 and 3, etc. If
you're not, all I can say is that "Book fold" is a feature that is not quite
ready for prime time. After a few tries (and frustration when I needed to
reprint specific pages in a 100-page booklet and got blank pages or
garbage), I gave it up and went back to the manual method I described in my
article. It's more labor-intensive, but it does work!
