Newbie: Goofy underclock question

Hello. This is (potentially) going on an ASUS P2B-N so hopefully it is
appropriate here...

I have a PIII 1Ghz @133 S370 processor (the m-board it was on died). I
also have a slotket it'll go in. The P2B-N runs at 100. Will there be
a problem running a 133 chip with a 100 FSB? I'm only asking because I
have these parts already (i.e. it would be a no-expense upgrade if it'll
work.)

No (you'll get 750 MHz then). However, you should make sure that both
the slot adapter and the board are Coppermine compatible. As for the
board, it appears you need a rev 1.04 and a halfway recent BIOS (1014
beta 3 should be fine).

Thanks... I can live with the speed. I understand that I won't get the
full 1 Ghz out of it. The board and adapter are compatible. I don't
see why there would be a problem running a processor at a lower speed
but I figured I'd ask. Just getting up to the 750 will be an increase
over the 450 that is in there now.

Actually, you might be pretty happy with the underclocked processor. I
have a P4 2.6GHz (FSB800) here which I am temporarily running at a lower
FSB speed (until I receive my DDR400 memory). The processor is VERY cool
(CPU temp of 26 degrees Celsius, case temp of 28) and the CPU cooler is
not running at all most of the time. And when doing normal work in
Windows (i.e. not running games), you simply do not need the added grunt
of the processor.
