Newbie and Front Page

Sorry to ask what may seem to you guys some silly questions.
I run a charity web site in php and mysql. Someone has asked me to
adopt their web site too but wants me to do it in front page.
Before I take this on, what does front page *do*? (I told you it was
a silly question.)
If it will allow him to change the content of his pages from his own
desktop what are the extensions - are they htm or html?
And is 68 pounds a good price for front page 2003?
or should I save my money if there is there a newer version coming
out?
Is there a demonstration site which will let me experiment? (I've
searched for front page tutorial but can't get a handle on what they
are telling me.

Thanks for your help.

It is an HTML authoring application that facilitates producing a page of
HTML markup.

adopt their web site too but wants me to do it in front page.

This request reveals how little they know about this application. FP just
writes HTML. HTML is HTML. It is editable in any text editor.
If it will allow him to change the content of his pages from his own
desktop what are the extensions - are they htm or html?

The two are equivalent.
And is 68 pounds a good price for front page 2003?

FP is being replaced by ExpressionWeb - see the Microsoft site for details.
Is there a demonstration site which will let me experiment?

There is a downloadable trial of EW, yes. See the Microsoft site.
can't get a handle on what they are telling me.

Please make sure (before you take this job on) that you have the
fundamentals of HTML well understood.

You're right - sloppy questioning on my part.
I've looked for that download trial on the Microsoft site but all I
can find is a tutorial to Front Page 2000 which itself requires the
program to have been installed - but I can't find any downloadable
version of the program; even the offer of a trial of the Office 2007
Suite does not contain Front Page.
I was going to persevere, and then came across some reviews of it on
the Amazon site. I think I'll stick with HotDog and let my friend
find someone else.
Thanks for your reply, anyway.
