Newbie: Advice please for combined video & text " kiosk type " presentation

Hello folks,

Just found this group within the last 24 hours! some great posts and
brilliant info...many thanks to all you "out there" for answering all my
"unasked" questions!!!

Here is my official first/newbie asked question :) using PP 2000. ( i do
need to upgrade but will the upgrade alone solve this current
project/dilemma)

My main work is in video production & design for a spectrum of clients.

This current client needs to update his screen/info on a weekly basis,
editing text mostly.

Client is using a 19" + 42" Plasma for "looping" a (to be designed by moi
or " me fein" if you are irish ) 15/20 minute info screen of company
product/ prices/ clients/ endorsements. etc etc

I wish to show as big a video screen on/in PPoint without losing integrity
of original image quality - so i guess mpeg 1 + .mov + .avi at small
screen sizes. ( remember he wants to edit his text on a weekly basis ; so
DVD solution is out)

Question: Will PPoint XP or 2003 allow me to use better dissolves from
static slides to the intro of my video content ? ------Because PPT 2000
always starts/exits my video with a black box, even if I have white frame
intro + exit :-(

I have brought the mpeg files into Cleaner & converted to Q'time--- got a
good result, that works in PPT 2002, but would the upgrade deal with this
problem without me having to do the extra rendering in Cleaner.

However--- Next question is the biggie!!!

Question: Can I play video in PPT and scroll text / new screens / or images
without affecting the video playback in PPT?

Please let me know what you think.

Many thanks in advance,
Paul

I don't think that upgrading to 2002/2003 will really help with the intros
to your video. Those versions do have additional transitions, but that won't
affect how the video plays (or any black-box occurrences at the beginning of
the videos).

might give you some ideas, though.

Upgrading will not prevent you from having to do the "cleaner" thing,
either. MOV files are different than MPEGs...

Re this question, are you having problems now? Basically, video is pretty
processor-intensive, as I'm sure you're aware. If the system has enough
oomph, you should be fine. Don't use overscanned images. And know that video
still always plays on top -- you can't put text or images on top of the
video.
