Hello - I have just upgraded two of my Home LAN machines to XP Pro from Win2k.
I've done this after having sucessfully upgrading my PDC from NT4 Server to
Server 2003. All DNS and DHCP problems are resolved and both are fully
functional. Slowness in logging on was resolved. But now that I've converted
two of the workstations to XP Pro, I have a new issue as follows:
1) SLOW FILE XFR!! GRRRR!!! Having set up file shares between the
workstations and the PDC, I now find that file transfers (Copy/Move
etc.) between a non XP machine (ie. W2K / W98 etc.) and an XP machine
(XP Pro / Server 2003) are as quick as always but when going from one
XP pro machine to the other or to/from the PDC (Server 2003), the
XFRs take incredibly long and result in many Hub collisions (and the
hub traffic does not appear to be at full speed in this case). The LAN
is a 100mb TX Lan, Hub is a 3com office connect 8 port 100mb Hub. The
NIC's are the 3com Gigabit LOM resident on board the ASUS P4P800
motherboard and all are "hard set" to 100mb (ie. *not* Autosense - I
learned that from the Server 2003 install).
Can someone point me in the correct direction here as this is most
frustrating. Many thanks in advance.
