New window opened from a link fails to display page.

Hello. I have IE6 SP2 on my machine. I go to the following site.
http://www.ferguson.com/MaufacturerLink/manuflinks.shtml
It has links to all sorts of manufacturers of contractor suppliers.

If I click on ANY of the links in the list, it opens another IE window,
with no URL displaying in the address box, and the IE flag in the upper
right corner starts waving and waving and waving and never ends waving.

If I press the Stop button in the new window to the new site I get the
Action Canceled message/page. If I then hit View/Refresh from the menu
bar, the link displays.

If I go to the ferguson site, click File/New/Window and paste one of the
links from Ferguson into the new window, it goes to it immediately. It
only freezes if the clicking on the link opens up a new window.

If the link does not open a new window (like Google), it goes to the new
link OK since a new window is not being opened.

I have cleared out the temp files/cookies/history.

This does not occur if I use Netscape.

Any ideas?

From http://www.fjsmjs.com/OE/nolinks.htm

1. Click Start, and then click Run.

2. In the Open box, type:

regsvr32 urlmon.dll

3. Click OK, and then click OK again when you receive the following message:

DllRegisterServer in urlmon.dll succeeded.

4. If you are using WinXP try this:
http://www.mvps.org/sramesh2k/reg/IE_Default_Browser.reg

5. See Internet Explorer 6.0 Service Pack 1 may display a blank Web page
after you select Auto-Select encoding
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/870863

You can also try this:

Go to Start/run, and type SFC (msconfig for WinXP).
Choose 'Extract One File From Installation Disk' ("Expand File" for WinXP).
Type oleaut32.dll, not worrying about its location. Then, click Start.

Next to 'Restore From', type in or browse for the file's location, which is
probably in the Win98 (i386 for WinXP) folder of your installation CD-ROM
(typically D:\Win98), or in your Windows\Options\Cabs (Windows\i386 for
WinXP) folder, as the case may be.

Then, next to 'Save File In', enter C:\Windows\System (C:\Windows\System32
for WinXP), and click OK. System File Checker (or msconfig) looks for the
file, saves it as you requested, and then tells you that 'the file has been
successfully extracted'.

You may need to reboot.

Ok. I did that but there is no change.
Hmmm. That's beyond me. I'm not sure what that file is and what I can
do with it.
5. See Internet Explorer 6.0 Service Pack 1 may display a blank Web page

I turned off the Http references and removed auto-select. No change.

I did that too and it did not help. BTW, what is OLEAUT32.DLL? I
noticed by old one was from 2002, the other from August of this year.

Hmmmm. I've tried it twice. I have XP, used msconfig/expand. The file
I selected from I386 is 556KB and is version 3.50.5016.0. The current
version that won't get overwritten is 541KB and is version 5.1.2600.2180.

I guess I wouldn't be troubed by this but some web sites require IE to
be used in updates and they pop open new windows...windows without a
refresh button....ex Symantec.

Thank you for your assistance.

The same thing might occur if you pressed Ctrl-N on the window
that is failing to load. The effect would be to clone that window
with one that has more controls.
