New users have appeared in Explorer.

I have just reinstalled WindowsXP Pro because of a System32 crash, but this
has left an inconsistancy in the User numer & names.

In "My Computer" / Manage there are only two users listed as "Administrator"
and "Frank Martin".

But when I go to Explorer and look under 'Documents and Settings" I get:

Administrator,
Administrator.GENERAL-BOI3ASL,
All Users,
All Users.WINDOWS,
Frank,
Frank Martin,
Frank Martin.GENERAL-BOI3ASL,

The username before the crash was "Frank" and this still contains most
settings.

Is there any way to remove the surplus user names listed above (to just
three (Administrator,AllUsers, Frank Martin')) after first transferring all
relevant data.

WindowsXP does not allow deletion or renaming, but does allow moving, so as
a solution is it possible to dump all settings into 'Frank Martin' and then
dump the empty surplus user folders to some remte location - so avoiding
future confusion.?

Please help, because I want to fix this before proceding. Frank

This were generated becuase of your rebuild of the OS deleted the old Security Identifiers
(SIDs) and therefore the system created new profiles based upon new SIDs even though the
user names haven't changed.

Thanks, is there any way to remove the redundant folders and ensure future
data/settings go only into one selected folder?

All future settings will go into the last created Profile. Those will be noted by the dat
of the Profile folder.

You can copy data from the old profile to the new Profile to get back your data and default
settings. Do NOT copy the NTUSER.DAT file form the old Profile to the new Profile.

Thanks, since I wrote last the number of these user names is increasing with
out any action by me and the list at the moment is:
(Name/Mb size/No of files)

Administrator(4.58/55)
Administrator.GenBoi3asl (3.19/80)
AllUsers (62.7/1255)
AllUsers.Windows (9.15/284)
DefaultUser (0.645/58)
DefaultUser.Windows (0.488/51)
Frank (135/2621)
FrankMartin (9.91/141)
FrankMartin.General.Boi3asl (154/2654)
FRANKM~1~GEN (5.41/38)

What can be causing this?

Do you have "File and Printer Sharing" enabled ?

Do *all* your accounts use strong passwords ?

Are you behind a NAT Router ?

Is your PC named; Boi3asl ?
