New Unknown Issue

For whatever reason, when I logged in this AM, I got a white screen behind
all my desktop Icons with I think in bold letters says "Active Password
Recovery but I cannot read all the small print.

I tried F8 but since I am a novice, didn't help me. The only thing I have
done differently is this; I have continuing issues w/ ATT & the Motorola
Modem & I was on the phone w/ one of their "techs" & we went thru some steps
to restore my password to access the ATT/Yahoo, but not to login, so not
sure what to do now or what is even wrong - any & all ideas are welcomed.

Thanks to all

1. Try System Restore i.e. turn back the clock to a
date before the trouble appeared.
2. If this fails, since you followed instructions from a paid
ATT tech, he should sort out your problem (gratis.)

Don, thanks & I'll try that & didn't know about the ATT tech as that was for
the login/modem issue & not sure they would help w/ what may be a Windows
issue, but I like your idea of the Restore - thanks again & have you seen
this happen before ?

What is says is actually Active Desktop Recovery. I click on the only icon I
can see associated w/ this white screen to Restore My Active Desktop & then
I get a Pop Up Window that asks if I still want to run scripts -I have
checked both yes, then no & nothing happens

Also, I tried the system Restore & went back, day by day, a full week &
each time, it wouldn't Restore it & it says to try another date, so now this
may not be working.

I can access the Internet & obviously use my email, but I have that white
page & script behind all my desktop icons - arrrgghhhh !

Thanks Shenan & I tried the first link & did what the contents
suggested(below) & nothing seems to have changed. so I'll try the next link

"Click Start-->Control Panel-->Performance and Maintenance--->Sytem
icon....Click on Advance Tab under Performance Click "Settings"...to get to
"Visual Effects" tab---Select Let windows choose what's best."

I keep seeing this when I Google it:"
a.. Open an explorer window.
a.. Go to tools > folder options > view, and uncheck hide protected opsys
files.
a.. Apply and ok.
a.. Then do a search in your sys drive [usually c: ] for desktop.htt. It
will be in Docs and Settings\User\Application Data\Microsoft\Internet
Explorer.
a.. Delete them [One or more].
a.. Close the explorer window, re-click your desktop and click Refresh.
a.. Make sure to then go back and RECHECK that box for view, and uncheck
hide protected opsys files.. you really don’t want those special files
exposed all the time!"
But I did it step for step, 3X & each time, I can't even see any
desktop.htt settings !

Thanks anyway, but I found a way - so far that is ! I tried many things &
what worked for me was to simply right click in open
desktop>properties>Desktop & either re-apply your same scheme or choose
another & for 2 restarts, it seems to have worked. That said, I have no idea
as to why it happened, but for now, it's working.
