384 ram at 133fsb
15 and 40 gig wd hd's
Plextor ide burner
Hitechi ide dvd drive
Radeon 64 ddr vivo (agp) with 19" attached
Xpert98 (pci) with 15" attached
sb pci128 sound card
Mustek lpt port scanner
usb webcam
usb digital camera (as msd or webcam)
usb 2 joysticks and 2 wheels (all ff)
usb inkjet printer
lpt port laser printer
Wacom tablet
ethernet card
hardware based internal modem

Had 98SE installed on first hard disk with everything working more or less
fine. Finally got brave enough to boot XP Pro and install to second hard
disk resulting in dual-boot system.

I AM IMPRESSED. Everything went smooth as silk. Just kept adding drivers as
required, each doing exactly as expected.

Took over a day but it all's working well. Burner burns, dvd plays,
multi-monitor is as expected, video in and out both as expected. Geez, even
half the apps and games installed under 98 run after simply creating a link!
Even the 3rd party Netbuei went without a hitch so the other pc's in the
house and this one are still all happily sharing as previosly. Even some
"ati two video cards" issues I had to always work around under 98 are gone.

All in all ... nice, for time in awhile MS gets a thumbs up from me..

The only remaining issue is the apparent lack of a suitable "software
package" from Creative so that I can use my back speakers on the PCI128.
Under 98SE's package, the 3d controls and "special effects" (reverb, chorus
etc.) the card can do are controlled via their mixer program. They don't
seem to provide one for XP.

Can anyone help with this issue?

Hi

It is time to change the sound card to audigy series. Works great with much better sound quality, less than $70.- with Firewire port for gaming with other PC

You don't know me very well if you think I'd spend money on something "new"
when the old works just fine (least under 98SE) :).

When I want "blow me away" sound, I output to/use the stereo, 200watts rms
into a pair of 4-ways with 15" woofer floor standing monitors :) As it is,
when it works, the surround sound out of the PCI128 is just fine with me,
especially when run into stereo amps (front and back) each driving a pair of
3-ways with 10" woofer bookshelf speakers..

Is the card compatible with XP? Run a compatibility
check. Just cause sound coems out doesnt mean it's
compatible. SB 5.1 white box is only around 35.00, if you
don't want to go crazy.... Do they have updated drivers
for XP on the card manufacturer's site?

How could we know you well from a post....

Actually we figured from the list of museum pieces of
hardware that you didn't want to spend money, but u can't
take it with you.... :)

Hi

I'm also a HiFi amateur, i built my own amplfier 15 years ago, pure A OCL 50watt RMS each channel( total 4 channels with individual power supply) . It is still in good condition. I use it to enjoy my favourate old records
Now, I use a Denon AVC A1SE 7.1 channels surround amp. to enjoy home DTS surround

As what you have said, the old card cannot work on XP
Pls go to creative .com to have a look, you'll know the different.

The PCI128 may not have the enhanced drivers for XP, like it did for Windows
98. The only XP enhanced drivers are the Live and Audigy series.

Well I been programming since CP1 so I have learned a little. Certainly
enough to know that there's no need to go out and spend money "just because"
when all works well as is now :)
