New to Vista Home Premium

Frank

Hello, I just purchased Vista Home Premium and intend to install it but have
a few questions before doing so.

1. Can Vista be installed onto a FAT32 drive/partition? My current XP is
on FAT32.
2. What is a good imaging program that works well with Vista, once it is
installed?
3. Will Microsoft Office 2003 work with Vista?

Thanks in advance.

As far as I know, Vista can't be on a FAT32 partition without some rather
complicated trickery. If you bought an upgrade version of Vista (which
needs to be installed from within the running XP OS), I think I'd convert
your XP install to NTFS first. This is easy to do, but you should back up
your data first. Of course, you should back up your data anyway before
doing something big like an operating system upgrade.

Acronis True Image.
3. Will Microsoft Office 2003 work with Vista?

Yes.

1/ Vista needs an NTFS file system (Even XP works better on an NTFS file
system)

Why do you need to know that to answer the questions? The info you
asked for should have absolution NO bearing on the answers.

If the OP is running on a FAT32 partition, then it's highly probable that
the machine may not be of sufficient spec to run Vista properly. I say it's
a perfectly valid question and mat save the OP a lot of grief in the long
run.

I know having a FAT32 partition per se is not a reason for Vista not to
work, but most modern machines with sufficient performance to run Vista
properly tend to be NTFS formatted...

Where was there any mention of FAT32 in the question!?

Please. Stick to what you see and don't start pulling imaginary
scenarios outta your hiney.

Yeah, I was thinking that the OP might be trying to install Vista on
something like this Thinkpad T20 I am using at the moment, 512 Mb, 700 MHz,
30 Gb. Just because you can buy Vista Home Premium shrink wrapped in a box
at Office Depot, doesn't mean it will work for you.

Cheers,

From the OP:
"1. Can Vista be installed onto a FAT32 drive/partition? My current XP is
on FAT32"

THAT'S where FAT32 came from. Dork.

I didn't reply to the OP, I replied to the guy who asked off-the-wall
questions about RAM and CPU. Dick

Earl and Gordon:

My screwup entirely.

Apologies to both of you.

I was zeroing in on the backup and MS Office items, not part 1 - which
I think I completely missed for some reason.

It needs to be on NTFS. Vista installs as an image, not copy files as
previous versions.

I like Terrabytes Image for Windows for imaging

Office 2003 works on Vista. There is a small problem with Outlook which I
can't remrmber.

It's versions of Outlook prior to 2003 that have a password-retention
problem - Outlook 2003 should work just fine...

That's with older versions, not 2003, and has to do with retention of the
E-mail password.
