New System: AMD X2 4400+ (@2.2G) or Intel P4 D 940 (@3.2G) ?

OK, I used to follow advances in hardware but haven't for quite a
while. Still running an Athlon 1800+. As expected, things have
changed a lot and it is time to replace the ol" system. I know I want
dual Core technology and for about the same price I can get a system
built around the Pentium D 940 or the Athlon 64 X2 4400+.

Witout getting too technical (already read a lot of reviews) which
would you pick? I know I am in an AMD newsgroup so I'll have to take
this into consideration ;)? The system is often used for
multitasking (making a slideshow while burning a DVD, downloading from
newsgroups while running a defrag, some video editing, lots of gaming
such as car racing, etc.).

Your input will be very much appreciated! Andre

The new Core 2 Duo Intels will be much better. But we must wait for
reasonably priced motherboards that overclock nicely.

I think the AMD would be better for the games, and the Intel Pentium D for
the video rendering. But the Intel will burn more power and make more heat.

Wouldn't buy a Pentium D at any price. Now the new Core 2 Duo is another
story. Intel has killed the entire netburst line of CPU's in case you
didn't know.

AMD has stopped production on the 4400+, the only A64 that still has 1M
caches is the FX62 which is very expensive. The Pentium D is a piece of
crap, don't even consider it. The new Intel Core2 Duos are the new
leaders. Consider a system with a 6600 or a 6700, both are faster than the
FX62 and are less expensive. The Core2 Duo was just announced last week,
the first systems should start to be available this week (that's what
MonarchComputer told me). HP and Dell may already be selling Core2 Duos if
you don't mind paying the Windows tax.
