New questions processor speed

Dear windowers,

I have a new question about the processor speed, which is completely about
how much Ghz a machine has.

I have want to buy a new computer and have my eye on two models which are
equal (same Intel Mobile Pentium/Centrino processor, both 400FSB, 2MB cache,
512MB memory, etc) , except one aspect and that is the processor speed of 1.4
and 1.6 Ghz.

I demand high multi-tasking performance from a computer, like having many
applications running at the same time. My question is if this difference is
very big or not in usage. Has a difference of 200 Mhz on a Centrino processor
a big influence on performance if everything else is the same.
As an amateur it seems to me that 200 on 1400 or 1600 is not a big
difference... but again, I'm an amateur. :p

Please let me know.

Best regards,
Wing

The difference between a 1.4 and a 1.6 is not noticeable, those units are
probably
over 2 years old. New PCs are now using above 3.0GHz, that's where you'll
see a big boost. Tiger Direct now has 2.4GHz units on special for $299.99
If you are going to use Centrino (wireless), it depends on the complete setup
and peripherals you are using and have attached, such as mouse, keyboard,
monitor and DSL or cable access. Check with a friend and see if they have
some of these features, you can get a better idea that way, unless you want
to be #1. This is not an advertisement.

If as you say "I demand high multi-tasking performance from a computer",
then 1.4 or 1.6 is not even close to what you want to buy.
